Volunteering for NightWalk

Welcome to UC NightWalk Online!

The purpose of this page is to explain to you, a UC Student and potential NightWalk Volunteer, how volunteering for NightWalk works and how you can begin to get involved today!

As you know, NightWalk is a student volunteer-powered shuttle service which gives rides to UC students, staff and faculty after dark to and from various locations on and surrounding UC’s main campus.
(For even more detailed information about what NightWalk is, please CLICK HERE.)

Our volunteers are UC students whom have been fully trained in how to properly and safely operate NightWalk equipment to effectively and efficiently serve their fellow UC community members. NightWalk operates all seven days of the week, primary operated by dedicated student groups. However, currently on three days of the week, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays we allow individual volunteers to work.

There are three primary job positions to be staffed during any given NightWalk shift:

  1. Dispatcher – Accept pick-up requests and communicate them with the van.
  2. Passenger – Ride alongside the driver and help navigate and communicate.
  3. Driver – Drive the van safely and efficiently.

To begin volunteering for NightWalk there are a few steps you need to take, and they are as follows:

  1. Register Online. You register online to tell us information about yourself so we know who are and how to contact you in the future should you ever decide to volunteer. When you register you are simply telling us you are INTERESTED in becoming a volunteer. You are NOT obligated to continue further in the training & volunteering process if you do not wish to do so.

  2. Get Trained. Training sessions are conducted as needed by members of the governing body over NightWalk in a classroom or meeting room on main campus. As new training sessions are planned, all registered but untrained persons will receive emails informing them about upcoming training sessions. Training is simple, easy and is done in a single 60-90 minute session.
Upon completing a training session you become CERTIFIED!

  3. Schedule your Shifts. Use our website to schedule times to volunteer. It’s simple, easy and fast!

  4. Volunteer. Our website will automatically remind you when it’s time for you to volunteer. Go on the night(s) you signed up for and have fun!
